The job of Assistant Brand Manager

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Please let me begin by thanking Arne for selecting me for the position and by thanking all of you who support that decision. Thank you.

For my first post here on the blog I want to explain a bit about what I am tasked with doing as I understand it. In the position of Assistant Brand Manager I am going to be performing a number of duties, only some of which are the duties of a brand manager.

Foremost I will be the primary customer service liaison for North America. It is beneficial that I live only about 30 minutes away from the warehouse and know Don personally. If there are issues with merchandise not arriving or if there are issues with defective merchandise I have the ability to go to the source and resolve those issues.

I will be the primary voice of Warlord CCG. Arne is still the guy in charge and he will still be communicating with everyone, but I will be a lot more accessible and I will probably post more than he does. I will also be the person working to network with advertising outlets and get the Warlord CCG brand back onto the radar screen of gamers. This also means that I will be communicating to and through fan sites, and I will be providing preview cards and other materials to those sites.

Working with Arne and Design, I will be contributing ideas for new promotional materials and working to keep their distribution effective. I am aware that the current means of getting promos to players has rusted nearly to a halt. As ABM I am going to work towards getting the system active and worthwhile.

I will push to revamp the Ordo so that it becomes something of a fan club. It needs work and I have lots of ideas. There will be a new call for envoys who will receive job descriptions, direction, and empowerment, and who will be the primary directors of the Ordo once it is healthy.

With all of that written, the title of Assistant Brand Manager might seem somewhat ill-fitting but it’s what we’re adopting anyhow.

I will post again in a week or so with some distinct action.

If you need to reach me you may always private message me at the Temple of Lore or on the Cardmasters forum. I read those sites at least five days a week and I will reply to everyone to the best of my ability.

Welcome the new Assistant Brand Manager

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

The search for an Assistant Brand Manager has been successful:

Please welcome Roy Hembree in this instrumental position!

Roy has been a fan of the game for years and brings valuable experience in retail and wholesale sales to the team. His primary responsibilities will include making sure that promises made are turned into promises kept, especially for the Warlord community in North America.

I very much look forward to having Roy on board.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Today is Christmas Eve - a time to concentrate on family and your loves one.

I wish all of you out there in the Warlord community a merry christmas and may the new year bring less woes and more merriness for all of you.

Printing delayed

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Hi guys!

I am sure you are eagerly awaiting the new cards. So am I. Here’s what has happened: Due to some miscommunication (wrong template for packaging is one, for example - as this set is printed at a different physical location as  the Treasure Chest, so a different template is used despite the same size packages :( ) we missed our designated slot at the printers.

For them unfortunately we are a small fish, so some larger companies and magazines are having their stuff printed now, which pushes us back. And back again. I still have not gotten a definite date, but due to the christmas break the printing is definitely going to be pushed back to January 2010. Welcome to the realities of being a small company.

This is not entirely the fault of the printers - some of the delays responsible were on my side - kids sick, myself sick led to things piling up.

I am going to announce some changes for pre-orders soon (after I have coordinated with our new Customer Support Manager - or whatever title fits the new position best), but I don’t want to jump the gun yet. If you trusted us and paid early, we are going to come up with some reward to (at least partly) make up for the increased wait.

As for previews - as far as I am aware off, pretty much all the cards are out there, being spoiled. I have a attached a few of the The Chosen ones that are not out there, and I assume the CSM will complete the last previews.

Why did we do some of those reprints?  For once we wanted the new sets to be playable out of the box - make it easier for new players. That means some of the basic cards have to be included. Secondly it offered an opportunity to fix some of the cards that we didn’t get to earlier (adding the elemental traits was the most common thing we wanted to see added). All in all I believe the Design Team did a great job in offering a great expansion for Warlord!

So, what’s to come in 2010?

New expansions, that’s for sure. Before I announce any schedule (which I proably won’t for some time - I hate the delays as much as you do and feel very, very bad about them), I need to reorganize a few processes and get some of the things promised but not yet kept out of the way). That’s something the new CSM will help with tremendously.

Expect some additional announcements soon!

Small delay

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Hi!

Just to let you know, Sands of Oblivion is at the printers, but it is delayed because the schedule filled up before christmas unexpectedly (contrary to what one might think printers are usually busy in September and October to get the christmas stuff out).  The delay can’t be too huge, though, and I’ll start to get the previews out in earnest over the next few days.

Here are some of those…
