Viva la Mexico!

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

He came, he saw, he conquered.

KoHIT veteran Efrain Astorga from Mexico prevailed with his Krenthor Gouge in a field of 23 players at the SoCal Winter Campaign event, beating Dennis Dreischmeyer who piloted Inquisitor Dmitir into the finals.

Congratulations to all who played and the great TO team!

A full tournament report can be found here.

Ironforged, Part II

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

The firestone brazier had burned down entirely. There hadn’t been enough fuel left to keep it stoked. Outside the tent Alaric could hear the first sounds of his people breaking down the camp for the next day’s march. In the darkness the new king sat straight on his camp stool with his fist closed around the symbol of Kor Kohn had given to him as the tent flaps flew back and a dwarf stumbled in stiffly, his ironcloth armor crusted in frozen dirt. It looked like winter was coming swiftly in these mountains. (more…)

Warlord Booster Draft Kit available

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

An aspect yet unexplored in Warlord 4E is doing Booster Draft tournaments. Of course, in a game that does not offer Booster Packs, it takes an extra step:

  • Open a number of decks equal to the number of players (ideal is opening six base set Adventure Path Sets and reuse the rest for the next tournament, potentially bolstering the pool with additional decks).
  • Remove the Warlords and set them aside.
  • Shuffle the remaining cards (it works best to use a large table and “deal” them into a multitude of stacks, then combine the stacks and repeat the process two or three times).
  • Deal out a virtual booster of 9 cards to each player, face-down.
  • Follow general booster draft rules (pick one, pass the remaining cards to your right, until no cards are left).
  • Repeat this six times (alternating the direction you pass the remaining cards each round), so that each player has 54 cards.
  • Give each player time to build a 40-card tournament legal deck.
  • Play a tournament and don’t forget to have fun!

In order to facilitate this type of game play, PHOENIX Interactive is offering a special Warlord Booster Draft Kit. It contains 15 Adventure Path Sets for the price of nine (store discounts apply) and a very attractive promo card package for prize support, including the Warlords Gethseme Steelshard, Kerebrus, Loki, Taisia, six copies of the infamous Judge Aeacus as well as a bunch of high gp value Treasure Cards such as Dragon Buckler or Full Plate (the picture only shows them pars pro toto).

This offer is only available to brick & mortar stores and registered gaming clubs and cannot be the first order of either store or club. Clicking the picture brings you right to the order page.

Best Fansite 2008

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

It hasn’t been easy. Not easy at all.

Thanks to all of you who have followed the call and produced a Warlord fansite. I really know how much effort, skill and perserverance goes into such an endeavor. And I really hope all those websites will stay with us and inspire others to crop up.

But now imagine the little envelope, the crowd growing silent, the tearing of paper, “And the Winner is:”… (more…)

Warlord: Crimson Coast pre-orders

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Yes, it is a bit early. But chances are, Warlord: Crimson Coast is going to be available as a pre-release at the RPC Role-Play Convention 2009, running April 3rd-5th in Cologne. The design team has been busy trying to give us a bit of a cushion, so we don’t have to rush things to the printers as we had to in the past.

So I decided to open up the pre-orders. From now till April 3rd you have the chance to pre-order and get a copy of Sir Robert of Andover and a copy of Takaxras for each set (one set = one of each #10-#12) you pay till April 3rd.

Sir Robert will already be tournament legal March 30th, a date for Takaxras has not been set.

“Huh?” you may ask. Yes, Robert is legal before the set appears at your door step. Consider it an extra incentive: For all orders paid till March 15th we’ll send out the promo cards in advance. It’s that easy.

And yes, there will be other ways to get Sir Robert later on (no, he’s not going to be part of an OP kit), but this is the only way to get him right away.

May my enemies tremble.
