6-way tie, wth?

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Some new votes came in. Are you kidding me? ;-)

Naram-Sin ist still in second place, but we now have an exact 6-way tie for third place, with Talin Tzin jumping up, rogue-like, to take a place amongst the other five detailed in the last post.

I sure hope some members will be able to break that tie until the poll ends in week or so.

Head-to-Head Race

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

A few days ago I started a poll on what “bad” Warlords you (or rather the members of the Ordo Phoenicis Ascendentis) would like improvements for (in form of cards that help especially that card to get better.

Sir Robert of Andover

Right now Sir Robert of Andover is clearly in the lead, followed by Naram-Sin. For third place there is a head-to-head race between Dhamir Al-Maliq, Duchess Brymin, King Alaric, Raclesis, and Yvaalis.

If you are a member of the Ordo Phoenicis Ascendentis - go vote now and break the tie!

Would you fight to save the Dwarves?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

There is a new poll on the right (you might have to scroll down a bit, depending on your screen size) asking you, whether you would defend Winterhold at the side of King Alaric, if you were at KoHIT 9.

Visions of dice dancing through my head

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Suppose there was an upcoming campaign over the summer, let’s say. And suppose there were going to be custom dice given the top four players, where the second through fourth place players all received similar dice (placing dice) and the first place player won a die with different colors to distinguish it (winners dice), theoretically. Now this is just speculating, you understand, but if the placing dice were white dice with black ink and the winners dice were black dice, well just what color should the ink on the winners dice be: white, red, or yellow? It’s a powerful difficult decision. I wonder if a poll wouldn’t help me decide. I wonder, too, if another die (same design / different colors) were produced and traded for XP near the end of summer / beginning of fall if that would be well received or if people would think it devalues the prize dice. I would hope it would go over well. Perhaps those dice would be gray. Hmm, food for thought for the afternoon.

Focus on GenCon

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Now that almost everything is taken care of production-wise, my focus shifts towards GenCon (still so much to do, though). I love GenCon. It’s one of the best times of the year, and for me about the only time to meet my friends in the US.

Reason enough to put up a new Poll: Are you going to be at GenCon? Let me know!

As for the orders: Give me a little bit of time to sift through all of them. I’ll bring some product to GenCon for you to pick up, some will be sent immediately after GenCon. The Ordo Phoenicis Memberships should be updated by the end of next week.

Remember: You can still pre-order the Treasure Chest as long as it is still available.

What artwork do you want?

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

Gethseme Steelshard on the Winter Campaign T-Shirt was a no-brainer.

Selecting the artwork for a Summer Campaign T-Shirt (probably in a dark green or some other outrageous, i.e. non-black color) is not so easy. Therefore I am opening it up to you. You can select up to five of the artworks that will appear on the T-Shirt (in the poll in the right column):

Mother Deiane Thalaasa SS-Slik Shah’syss - Sutek Warlord Sta’ash

Bataar Fire Seeds Incessant Waves Lead by Example

What Warlord would you like to see?

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Time for some swift interaction. I put up a new poll - what Warlord would you like to see this week-end? The Chosen one is excluded on purpase - it is going to be spoiled at some point at www.tcgplayer.com, we need to get some other TCG players to grow awareness of the coolness named Warlord 4E after all.

You have a maximum of two votes in the poll, the Warlord is going online on Sunday.

While you wait, here is the first Elf:

When did you start Warlord?

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Time for  a new poll!

Warlord has had its ebbs and flows. Some of us have been around seemingly forever, some have found the game only recently but are just as solid fans of the game.

When did you pick up Warlord for the first time?

No Dungeons in the Base Set

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

The community has spoken: There will be no dungeons in the base set. While a good third was for including it, over 60% were against having it in the first set. The numbers were derived by combining the open poll on this website with the weighted results of the one in the Ordo Phoenicis Ascendentis forum.

Dungeons Pie Graph

While we still think dungeons as a theme are a fun idea, we’ll take our time experimenting with them, until we find a way to reintroduce them that is really fun!

The Forced March rule

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

From a design point of view Warlord is special: Other than other popular games like Magic: The Gathering by Wizards of the Coast or the World of Warcraft TCG by UDE, Warlord doesn’t have a cost for playing characters.

Sure, you cannot play a level 4 character when you don’t have somebody sitting in rank 3, but at a certain point you have stabilized your ranks enough to play level 5 or even higher characters like the ever popular dragons. If you routinely achieve that, you’d always play the feisty lvl 4 and above characters, because once you start stunning them forward, no extra cost accrue.

From the design perspective this means that you have to be either very careful to design no too powerful higher level characters (but hey - this is part of the fun the d20 ties bring us - ultra-powerful monsters like dragons and heroes), give appropriate meta or have the Forced March rule.

For those not familiar with that rule: It states that whenever a stunned character falls forward another rank, it gets a wound. So for example, when a Terrorshard falls to the front (after flying to rank six, spending to five, stunning to four) it already has three wounds on him, making him much easier to handle for the opponent.

When previously dragon (or similar) decks became too powerful, some specific cards against that were introduced: Forced March, which nobody played because its uses were way too narrow, and Cerebrul, who offered a much better alternative, but still was played rather seldomly.

For Epic Edition the Design Team felt this posed too much of a limitation on higher level character options and introduced the Forced March rule and henceforth we saw level 4 characters with 3 hit points, level 5 characters with 4 hit points and so on.

Epic Edition failed. Was the Forced March rule part of the reason?

I’d like to know your opinion - so please vote in the poll to the right, which is going to stay open for two weeks.
